BBL knockout draws complete

The 2018-19 BBL season has tipped off with the completion of the BBL Trophy and BBL Cup.

The BBL Cup

The BBL Cup only includes the current 12 BBL franchises, with the top 4 receiving a first round bye, to then be included in the Quarter Finals.

This season, London City Royals, the newest franchise included for this season, will be drawn in the first round.

The first round draw was completed as follows:

London City Royals v Worcester Wolves
DBL Sharks Sheffield v Cheshire Phoenix
Plymouth Raiders v Bristol Flyers
Surrey Scorchers v Manchester Giants

These fixtures are to be played around 26-28 October.

An all top four clash will take place as two powerhouses go head to head, Newcastle Eagles and Leicester Riders.

The rest of the Quarter Finals will be played as follows:

Plymouth/Bristol v Radisson Red Glasgow Rocks
London Lions v London City/Worcester
Sheffield/Cheshire v Surrey/Manchester.

The BBL Trophy

The BBL Trophy sees all twelve franchises included with no favourability to past season seeding.

Non-League Inclusion

Joining the twelve BBL franchises are four non-league sides, as previously reported on The Church of Hoops, these will be St Mirren (Scotland), Team Basketball Wales (Wales), Worthing Thunder (England) and Team Solent Kestrels (England).

St Mirren will receive a lot of Scottish interest as they fight to prove themselves in the big league.

What better way to start your Cup run with a start against the most winningest Trophy team, Newcastle Eagles.

Newbies London City Royals will host an interesting matchup against Team Basketball Wales, essentially the National Team.

English NBL Division 1 sides Worthing Thunder and Team Solent Kestrels face Surrey Scorchers and Cheshire, respectively.

The first round draw was completed as follows:

London Lions v DBL Sharks Sheffield
Cheshire Phoenix v Team Solent Kestrels
Esh Group Eagles Newcastle v St Mirren West College
Manchester Giants v Leicester Riders
Plymouth Raiders v Bristol Flyers
Radisson Red Glasgow Rocks v Worcester Wolves
Worthing Thunder v Surrey Scorchers
Team Basketball Wales v London City Royals
