Sony Centre Fury are not long removed from their historic treble winning season. A Playoff Final appearance and lifting the Scottish Cup last season left many thinking Fury will remain strong this season and contend again for multiple titles.
A big off-season was looming as the club planned to make some big named additions to help their squad compete again. Additions however, would have to wait as not one, but two, big names decided to leave the club. League MVP Boris Matrakov returned home to his native country and 2 time Finals MVP Adam Hammerschmidt signed with St. Mirren and boosted their own hopes of fighting for another title.
Head Coach John Bunyan said on the upcoming season,
This is going to be an exciting season for the team, the club and the fans with a number of new signings coming to our Senior MENS team. We have lost Boris Matrakov, who has returned home to Bulgaria and Adam Hammerschmidt who decided he could no longer commit to the travel involved.John Bunyan
Some good news however, Greek big man Greg Foussas returns from injury as he missed the latter half of the season last year.
Four international signings come to Falkirk. Linzi Hao and Xie Yuzhe join the side from Stirling University as they make the jump to SBC after arriving in the country from China.
18 year old Australian Jacob Jackson also signed with the club to maintain the youthful outlook in the side and joining him as the final signing is Makaleb McInnes from the States.
McInnes joins Fury straight out of the US College system where he was team mates with Fury product Fraser Malcolm – now signed with Rocks – at Black Hills State. The American guard completed his senior year where he featured in 29 games for the Yellow Jackets with 28 starts under his belt, he averaged 10.2 ppg and 3.0 rpg as well as knocking down 46 three pointers on the season, good for second on the team.
Bunyan spoke on his American import to the Falkirk Herald Sport, saying,
Makaleb arrived in Scotland today and I have been hugely impressed with not only his basketball skills, after a light practice this evening but as an individual.
He has come from a great program at Black Hills State and I am sure he will be a very popular player with the fans. He will be involved in volunteer work in not only the club’s coaching program, but within the community and our Academy at Falkirk HS.
Makaleb is one of 4 new signings we have in our Men’s team and fans will get a chance to see all these players in action against the USA Select on Monday night.John Bunyan
Fury host USA Select in a pre-season match up on Monday 9th September, more details can be found here.
