Scot in GB as U18 Men Announced

GB Basketball today announced that Under 18 Head Coach Alan Keane had confirmed his final 12 man roster.

Coach Keane has had previous experience with the GB set up and currently takes the England U18’s as well as the JMA Academy in the EABL and the Reading Rockets NBL D1 side.

Keane told GB Basketball,

Once again it is pure joy to work with such a committed group of players and staff. Three games in France last week gave us a good benchmark of where we are. It also doesn’t give us much time to build what we need and are capable to build but this group of players have taken big steps in the time we have been together. For many division A basketball is a world unknown to them unless you have played there previously, however when one truly focuses on the team and gives everything you have to offer then the competition can be exciting, surprising and unpredictable. We will approach each day as we do each day in camp and that is 100% commitment to the choices we make on and off the court. From there the score will take care of itself.

Named in the squad was former St Mirren standout Christopher Feeney, who now suits up at Barking Abbey. Dominating the EABL and NBL D1 Senior League this season, Feeney is also coming off the experience of being in the squad last summer. The growth in talent will give Feeney a solid chance at being a leader on the court.

Feeney said on his selection,

I’m very excited to have the opportunity to represent GB this year in division A in Greece. This is a very important year being my last one as a junior player, I’m hoping to come in as one of the more experienced guards on the floor and help the team to have success at the highest level in Europe.

Christopher Feeney

The current Barking Abbey stand out started his career at BasketballPaisley and breaking into the St Mirren youth and junior squads, it was his hard work that allowed him to progress. A pit stop at L’Hospitalet in Spain saw him make the jump as one of the best young talents in Europe and it wasn’t long before an offer from EABL side Barking was on the table.

Former coach Chris Cleary (BasketballPaisley) spoke on Feeney’s progression,

Throughout the years Christopher has always been focused on reaching a performance level. From Scotland squads to GB, he has strived to get better and better. It has been great to see him progress through the basketballpaisley pathway and then onto Europe and now Barking Abbey. Christopher has no problems adjusting to any level, so the whole club will be behind him when he steps onto the court at Euro A.
