Scottish Success at Digby Brown Invitational

Digby Brown Invitational prepares teams for upcoming season.

The Inverclyde National Sports Centre played host to this years Digby Brown Invitational Wheelchair Basketball Tournament. Three teams battled in out in the pre-season opener, Scotland U19’s, UK Invictus and Glasgow Rocks.

All three teams used this coveted tournament to prepare themselves for what lies ahead, with Scotland getting ready for the fast approaching 2018 School Games, Rocks were preparing for the 2018-19 BWB Season and UK Invictus getting final prep done ahead of the Invictus Games, Sydney. The officials were also in preparation as this was one of the first games back for many, ahead of the SBC Season and those attending School Games as well.

The format was split over 2 days, with everyone playing each other twice. This provided the spectators with fast paced high quality basketball and chances for ‘revenge’ matches to try and rectify a loss.

Over the weekend, the games were all close, within 10 points. Scotland U19’s went undefeated, just… as Invictus took them to the wire in the last game of the day, down by 2 Scotland’s David Beattie banked a 3 with three seconds left on the clock to win it.

The Final Standings were:

1st – Scotland U19’s

2nd – Glasgow Rocks

3rd Р UK Invictus

A tournament All-Star team was announced, too.

The Tournament MVP was James Beattie from Scotland U19.
