Senior Scottish Cup Draw Announced

The opening rounds of the 2019-20 Scottish Cup were announced via the BasketballScotland draw. The addition of 2 new Senior Women’s teams into the draw opened up the chance for more games in the preliminary stages.

The draw started with the Senior Women that features new comers to Division One in Perth Phoenix as well as Dunfermline Reign entering this year too.

In the Preliminary stages it saw two games, with a powerhouse matchup of Sony Centre Fury and Edinburgh University facing off in the opening rounds of games and on the West, St Mirren will host West Lothian Wolves in the opening round.

Onto the Quarter Finals, Dunfermline Reign will get the chance to host their first Senior Women’s Scottish Cup game as they’ll take on the winner of Fury or Edinburgh Uni, hoping that the home crowd can boost the side into a good cup run.

Glasgow University will take on Edinburgh Kool Kats in the Quarter Finals along with Perth Phoenix hosting league champions Lady Rocks. The winner of Preliminary game 2, St Mirren or Wolves, will earn the home tie to Glasgow Fever.

Onto the mens draw, 16 teams entered the completion, giving chance for a straight round of 16. The two sides promoted from Division 2 will face off in the first tie as Ayrshire Tornadoes will host Perth Phoenix. Reigning champions Dunfermline Reign will host non-league side Highland Bears.

An all-Edinburgh clash takes place as one of the newer sides in SBC, Edinburgh Lions will host one of Scotland’s oldest clubs, Pleasance. A top 4 clash in the opening round sees Sony Centre Fury travel to the Crags to take on Boroughmuir Blaze. The Academic tie of the round sees old rivals Edinburgh University play Glasgow University at Pleasance, but only for Heriot Watt to miss out on an academic tie as they travel to the Lagoon to take on St Mirren.

An all Division 2 tie presents itself as recently demoted Stirling Knights were drawn at home against West Lothian Wolves and the final tie of the opening round sees Glasgow Storm take on City of Edinburgh Kings.
